Grace, Love and Peace to each and every one of you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
Last week we learnt that we should not consider ourselves greater than others and we should not consider ourselves inferior to others as well.
So today let us understand why are we saved
Ephesians 2:4-5
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us,5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
The Word of God explains that we are saved.
How are we saved – Verse 4 & 5 gives us three reasons why we are saved.
1. Because of God’s rich mercy
2. Because of God’s great love
3. Because of God’s grace
In all these three points we don’t find anything to do with us, like:
* Our merit
* Our works
* Our righteousness
* Our faithfulness
* Our spirituality
* Our greatness
1. Because of God’s rich mercy
What does Mercy mean?
compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
In simpler terms Mercy means we deserve punishment but we are not given that punishment.
Bible gives us a clear picture about God’s Mercy
Luke 6:35-36
God’s mercy enables us to love even our enemies as well
But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
1 Peter 1:3
God’s mercy made us alive
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Timothy 1:16
God’s mercy makes us display Jesus Christ
But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.
Deuteronomy 4:31
God’s mercy does not leave us like orphans
For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.
Jeremiah 3:12
God’s mercy removes His anger which is upon us because of our faithlessness
Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, “Return, faithless Israel,” declares the Lord. “I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the Lord;” “I will not be angry forever.”
Joel 2:13
God’s mercy rescues us from disaster
And rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
Lamentations 3:22
God’s mercy will never end
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.
